Camp Kidia

Kidia is a small and vibrant Chaga community set in the foothills of Kilimanjaro. The camp itself is set amongst banana and coffee farms and offers you the perfect opportunity to experience authentic rural Tanzanian life away from the tourist traps. With spectacular views in all directions and a waterfall nearby, this is the perfect place to relax and socialise with the locals after a day’s work.

Location: 55 km (1 hours drive) from Kilimanjaro Airport

Accommodation: Traditional bandas with comfy mattresses & bedding. Modern toilets & sinks, bucket showers

Power: Mains electricity backed up by generator (between 18:00 – 22:00). British 3 pin power sockets

Phone Signal: Intermittent

Meals: Three healthy, well balanced and tasty meals a day e.g. toast, cereal,  and omelette for breakfast; rice, beef stew/curry with veg for lunch/dinner & fruit

Day to day - Sample itinerary

Day 01

Karibu Tanzania!

You arrive into Kilimanjaro Airport where you will be met by a member of our local team and transferred to Camp Kidia (1-2 hours). Where you’ll be met by our legendary camps staff.

Day 02

Project orientation

Today we take you to visit the locations where you will be working on projects. You will also visit a local school and learn Swahili phrases with the children.

Day 03-05

Community projects

You and your group will be given an overview of the work that needs to be done and the projects that you will be getting involved in. We start work in the afternoon and over the next few days you will be helping with a home building/renovation project for vulnerable families and elderly members of the community.

Day 06

Chill out day Moshi town

Today is a chance to relax. We will take you to Moshi so you can shop, explore and chill.

Day 07-12

Community projects

Back to projects. We will continue with the community housing enterprise.

Day 13

Chill out day

A well deserved day of exploring Tanzania.

Day 14

Cultural day

Today you will work alongside local families and immerse yourself within their day to day lives. You will learn how to cook traditional food and spend some quality time with local women in the village.

Day 15-19

School projects

This week, we will be visiting a local school and projects will focus on improving facilities and infrastructure. This could involve anything from low-level building and construction to making more desks which the children are desperately in need of.

Day 20

Chill out day

A well deserved break and chance to explore.

Day 21

Waterfall trek

Today we will trek to a stunning waterfall, which is close to the camp. Perfect opportunity to spend the afternoon in beautiful surroundings.

Day 22-24

School projects

Get stuck back into project work at the school.

Day 25

Chill out day

And relax… Enjoy your last rest day.

Day 26-27

Community project work

Finish your house project, before saying farewell to the community. We will also head back to the school so you can say your goodbyes to the teachers and school children who you have been working with.

Day 28

Departure day

We say our goodbyes and transfer you back to Kilimanjaro Airport.
